Leather is making a come back in interior design circles. Not always the most obvious of materials to decorate with, it is perhaps more versatile than you might think and available in a wide variety of colours and finishes. Here is a list of ten ways to use leather, some of which may be a bit of a surprise…
- Leather bed frames. These have been around for a while and remain very popular: leather headboards or a complete leather sleigh bed, whatever your preference.
- Leather bed supports. Beds made with leather rather than wooden slats under the mattress are softer and for some people more comfortable. Visit Sleepmasters for a comprehensive range of beds to choose from.
- Leather wall coverings. Yes, you can ‘wall paper’ with leather. Used sparingly it can look stunning, particularly on a curved surface.
- Leather flooring. Leather floor tiles are much warmer underfoot than their ceramic or stone counterparts. Treat with care as they will mark easily – shoes off an absolute must.
- Leather books. For the intellectual in all of us introduce a mini-library to the bedroom. Leather-bound volumes are beautiful and perfectly complement a classic look.
- Leather decorations. Whether it’s a leather or suede light shade, leather picture or mirror frames or a leather piece of artwork on the wall you will be amazed at what’s out there.
- Leather seating. As well as the bed itself, leather chairs or stools will look beautiful in the bedroom – try white or cream for ultimate glamour.
- Leather rugs. Or more accurately, animal skin: if responsibly sourced these are a fantastic tactile decoration – just steer clear of endangered species such as tigers, or go for faux fur instead.
- Leather covered furniture. A surprising choice perhaps but a leather skin on pieces such as drawers or dressers will look soft and elegant in an up-market bedroom.
- Leather loudness. Completely tasteless in some circles but a dash of seventies disco fever might just turn freak into chic! Leather drapes at the window or animal throws on the circular bed – go for it.
